Originally an arcade game, Ikari Warriors is a vertically scrolling shooter for one or two players that was ported to various platforms between 1986 and 1989.

Players must use their primary weapons, power-ups and controllable vehicles to defeat wave after wave of enemy soldiers, tanks and helicopters.

The game takes inspiration from the culture of its time, most notably 1980s action movies. The game’s title “Ikari” even comes from the Japanese title of the film Rambo: First Blood Part 2 with the game also sharing a similar jungle setting.

Ikari Warriors has many links to other video games. The player characters, known in Europe and North America as Paul and Vince, have appeared in the King of Fighters series and even in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate as non-player characters.
