The C1P series marked Ohio Scientific's 1978 formal entry into the low-cost, mass-marketed personal computer marketplace. The Challenger 1P computer is effectively a Superboard II single-board computer plus case and power supply. Features include:

  • A full 53-key ASCII-like keyboard.
  • NTSC video display with scrolling and character editing capability.
  • Cassette storage using the Kansas City audio cassette standard.
  • Microsoft 8K BASIC in ROM.
  • Machine code monitor in ROM.
  • A minimum of 4K RAM.
  • Full upper/lower-case capability.
The C1P can be expanded using the 610 accessory board. This allows up to 32K RAM and dual mini-floppies to be added, along with expansion to the model 620 BUS adapter.
Specifications:
  • CPU: 6502 microprocessor running at 1MHz.
  • The two system interrupts are routed to the model 610 expander board.
  • 8K BASIC-in-ROM plus 2K monitor ROM.
  • 6850 UART 300 baud cassette interface adapter.
  • Serial interface, capable of being routed to RS232 or printer ports.
  • Direct access 1KB video display capable of 32x32 characters (NTSC output).
  • Up to 8KB socketed RAM (4KB supplied by default).
