The Power Macintosh 5400 series (also sold under variations of the name Performa 5400 and Power Macintosh 5400 LC) is a range of lower midrange personal computers that are a part of Apple Computer's Macintosh LC, Power Macintosh and Macintosh Performa families of Macintosh computers. The 5400 is an all-in-one computer with an integrated monitor, and replaced the Power Macintosh 5200 line in that role. It is largely identical to the Power Macintosh 6400 internally, which is essentially the same computer (the "Alchemy" platform) in a tower case. The 5400 was succeeded by the upgraded Power Macintosh 5500. However, the 5400 was the last to use the Performa and LC family branding.
The Apple Macintosh Performa 5400/180, based on the Alchemy architecture, features a 180 MHz PowerPC 603e processor, 16 MB of RAM, a 1.6 GB hard drive, and a TV/Video card in an ultracool black all-in-one case with a 15" color monitor. The Performa 5400/180 DE (Director's Edition), sold only in Australia, features 24 MB of RAM, a 2.4 GB hard drive, and a TV/Video card in the same black case. Unfortunately, no versions of this model were sold in North America.
Many sites claim that this model was introduced on the 1st October 1986, however, our medel has a sticker on the underside which states February 1996 with a reference number of CA-37 and 620-0810-A and was kindly donated by Roger Howard
