Second edition

This reference manual is primarily intended for users with previous experience in FORTRAN programming. It is also expected that newcomers who have attended a beginners' course in FORTRAN will be ready to use it for referfiftce purposes.

The compilers and a sub-set of the program and data management facilities are common to the Regional Centre's ICL 4-75 and IBM 360/50 installations, A sub-set of the Operating System/360 Job Control Language is also common to both. The aim is to provide a compiler with language and associated facilities equivalent to IBM's FORTRAN IV (level G), as available under 08/360, This edition of the manual is devoted to a description of the FORTRAN IV language as implemented by the Regional Centre. The appendices list features such as library routinesp error messages and differences from the ASA definition of the lORTRAN IV language. One of the appendices Appendix E, describes the limited set of job control facilities offered on Version 2 Release 3 (October 1969) of System 4 SIM 2 (System Interface Module» version 2) which mounts the compiler on the J operating system of System 4 computers. A description of program and data management facilities, including OS/360 Job Control Language is being prepared separately for the Regional Centre's 4-75 and 360/50 User's Guides.
