BACS is the organisation with responsibility for schemes behind the clearing and settling of UK automated payment methods Direct Debit and Bacs Direct Credit.  More than 120 billion transactions have been made via Bacs since its inception in 1968.

From the foreword:

'The BACS User Manual is in three volumes and describes the electronic funds transfer service operated for the Clearing Banks by Bankers' Automated Clearing Services Limited (BACS).'

Manual 2T of this three-manual set 'specifies detailed requirements for submissions via telecommunication links, and replaces Volumes 2(M) Input Requirements for Magnetic Tape, 2(C) Input Requirements for Magnetic Tape Cassette and 2(D) Input Requirements for Flexible Disk Cartridge (Diskette), for those Users wishing to use telecommunications as the medium for submission to BACS.'
