Jeff Bezos floats Amazon on the stock market

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon on 5th July 1994, as an online bookseller. Working from his garage on the outskirts of Seattle, Bezos made his first sale on 3rd April 1995 -- a copy of "Fluid Concepts And Creative Analogies: Computer Models Of The Fundamental Mechanisms Of Thought" by Douglas Hofstadter.

On 15th May 1997 Amazon floated on the NASDAQ stock exchange, trading at $18 per share.

Over the coming years, Amazon expanded from selling books to just about every product you can think of, becoming one of the world's most valuable companies in the process.
