Description :

Join us at the Centre for Computing History for a fascinating talk on Colossus from Chris Shore.

"For most of the last 80 years, there has been an accepted version of the development of computing machinery. Since the 1970's we have become aware that this version of history is wrong. We now know that the development, in total secrecy, of a machine called Colossus, at Bletchley Park during World War 2, changed everything and changes completely our understanding of history. This talk tells the story of Colossus, the people who built it, the problem it was built to solve, its impact on the war and on the subsequent history of computing."

Chris came to Cambridge as a student in 1983, finally emerging with a degree in Computer Science in 1986. He has lived and worked in Cambridge ever since, initially as an embedded software engineer and latterly on the dark side in marketing at Arm. He is a lapsed beekeeper, part-time bellringer and has an enduring love of old computing technology.

The event will begin at 7pm and last around 90 minutes.

Payment is taken by PayPal immediately. Please print a copy of the receipt that is displayed at the end of the payment process and bring it with you as your e-ticket.
