Starting off as a leather goods company, they found themselves at the forefront in the toy industry, Making a series of dedicated games consoles with the Telstar series and the Colecovision, after the American video game crash they took on the license to mass produce the Cabbage Patch Kids Dolls, Which became a huge craze, after filing for bankruptcy in 1988, the license passed to Hasbro.
Other products produced by the company over the years were above ground swimming pools, the Coleco Adam Computer, the Coleco Gemini console that was an Atari 2600 clone launched in 1983, and various other electronic consumer goods.
The brand was revived in 1995, and various compilations of Colecovision games were released. The company became involved in the Coleco Chameleon console, which was funded through a kickstarter, unfortunately the hardware which used the console was found to be little more than a SNES Mini, and the case made from the Atari Jaguar moulds, Coleco severed all ties with the project when the circuit board inside the console was identified as a CCTV one.
