R2E releases the Micral N

The Micral N was the first commercial, non-kit personal computer based on a microprocessor.

Produced by the French company R2E (Réalisation d'Études Électroniques), the Micral N went on sale to the general public in February 1973. R2E was founded by Paul Magneron and André Truong Trong Thi in 1971. The Micral was developed as a low-cost replacement for minicomputers, targetted at situations where high performance was not required.

The Micral was based on the Intel 8008. It sold for FF 8,500, or around $1,750. Around 90,000 units were sold, but the Micral never penetrated the U.S. market.
