The Velo 1 was Philips' original handheld device. It weighs about a pound, measures 7" x 4" x 1", and use a 16-color gray scale display. As originally marketed, it comes with an AC adapter and a docking station to connect to your main computer (a desktop for most people, although my main computer happens to be a laptop), and two CDs containing additional software.

PCWorld said:
"Philips Velo 1 hand-held computer is the best of the breed so far, based on my experience with a pre-production unit. But as a breed, CE devices are not for everyone: They%squotre not quite pocket size, have tiny keyboards, and require you to point and click using a stylus.
Weighing in at 14.5 ounces, the charcoal gray Velo is relatively sleek for a device that can generate documents, spreadsheets, and faxes; surf the Web; take voice memos; and interface seamlessly with your desktop via a serial connection.

Like other Windows CE devices, the Velo has a small QWERTY keyboard and a 480-by-240 resolution monochrome touch-screen LCD. Its backlighting capability is useful given the rather dim display. The easy-to-use stylus--calibrated to your touch during startup--replaces a mouse. When not in use it conveniently slides into a slot on the upper right side of the keyboard."
