This is a major revision of GH3S-0007-7, which is now obsolete. Significant changes are summarized under "Summary of Amendments" on page xi. This book is an introduction to the Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) licensed
program. It is written for data processing managers, operations managers, system programmers, space managers, applications programmers, system operators, TSO terminal users, and other data processing personnel who have the responsibility for data space management. This book contains general information about HSM, the characteristics of the licensed program, the hardware supported, the operating system supported, planning and installation, and the users of this licensed program. Readers should have some familiarity with OS/VS2 MVS concepts and terms. Throughout this book, the application programmer and the TSO terminal user are called the user. Tasks that can be performed by either the space manager or system programmer are described as tasks for the system programmer. It is assumed that the space manager and system programmer are HSM authorized users. This document has recently been digitised and made available here.
