This Technical Bulletin is designed to aid in planning for the
transition to MVS/SP Release 3. MVS/SP Release 3 includes all
of the MVS/SP Release 2 features, plus additional
enhancements. This book documents the MVS/SP Release 2 func
tions as though they were new with Release 3.
This document is not intended to be a complete reference on the
features and functions of the MVS/SP Release 3 product; that
detail is available in the standard product documents avail
able with the product. This document identifies those features
of the product of specific interest in a transition, and pre
sents a suggested installation plan which can be tailored to an
individual account.
Appendix A contains the bibliography of the documents referred
to in this bulletin. For a complete list of the publications
(except technical bulletins) for MVS/SP Release 3, see the
QS/VS2 MVS/Svstem Product General Information Manual,
GC28-1025-4.
There are actually two MVS/SP Release 3 products;
1. MVS/System Product - JES2 Release 3 (5740-XYS), and
2. MVS/System Product - JES3 Release 3 (5740-XYN).
The primary difference between the two products is the subsys
tem supplied (either JES2 or JES3). Unless otherwise
indicated, the terms "MVS/System Product Release 3" and
"MVS/SP Release 3" will be used to describe both products.
