This edition, as amended by technical newsletters GN25-0167 and GN25-0171, applies to GC28-0607-2. This edition applies to JES3 Release 3 (Selectable Unit ID5752-826) of Job Entry Subsystem 3 and to all subsequent releases and modifications until otherwise indicated in new editions or technical newsletters. JES Release 3 runs under 0S/VS2 MVS. JES3 Release 3 must be applied to an 0S/VS2 MVS Release 3.7 which has 0S/VS2 Scheduler/IOS Support (Selectable Unit ID 5752-816) and 0S/VS2 MVS Dumping Improvements (Selectable Unit ID 5752-833), or any subsequent functionally equivalent release of MVS. For details concerning prerequisites and corequisites, see 0SfVS2 MVS JESS Release 3 System Information, GC23-0024. This publication contains introductory information about JESS, one of the primary job entry subsystems
of 0S/VS2. JESS is a separately orderable component of 0S/VS2. The reader should have a basic knowled' of programming systems, such as OS/MVT or 0S/VS2. Althoug'i this publication is deseed to be read from cover to cover, the di£'ters are generally independent and can be referred to in any order. The chapters contain the following information: • Chapter 1, "Introduction," presents highlights of JESS. • Chapter 2, "JESS Concepts", presents JESS as a sub'stem and explains how a job flows throu' the JESS complex. • Chapter S, "JESS Services", discusses the services provided by JESS and how these services are used. • Chapter 4, "Installation Interfaces with JESS Services", discusses how the user utilizes JESS services. • Chapter 5, "MVS Job Processing Services used by JESS", discusses MVS services that JESS utilizes in processing jobs through the JESS complex. • Chapter 6, "Recovery Procedures and Service Aids", discusses the recovery procedures and service aids provided with JESS. • Chapter 7, "Planning Considerations", presents some preliminary information about plaiming and generating a JESS system. • Chapter 8, "JESS System Configuration Options", lists basic JESS hardware requirements and supported I/O devices. • "Glossary and list of Abbreviations" defines JESS and VS2 terms used in this manual.
