This book addresses the management of data availability in an MVS environment using the integrated catalog facility. Data recoverability management is discussed as the orderly transition from data error diagnosis through recovery, using previously developed procedures which include the creation of backups appropriate to the recovery technique. Recovery of damaged volume control structures (the volume table of contents and the VSAM volume data set) and recovery of damaged catalogs (of the integrated catalog facility) are discussed in detail.
