This edition, as amended by technical newsletter GN26-0901, applies to Release 1
of VSPC FORTRAN, program number 5748-F02, and to any subsequent releases
unless otherwise indicated in new editions or technical newsletters.
The changes for this edition are summarized under "Summary of Amendments" following
the list of figures. Technical changes made are indicated by a vertical bar to the left of the
change. These bars will be deleted at any subsequent republication of the page affected.
Editorial changes that have no technical significance are not noted.

This publication is directed to customer executives, installation managers, and
data processing system planners and analysts. It is intended as an aid in
evaluating and planning for the use of the VSPC FORTRAN processor,
program number 5748-F02, an IBM Program Product. It runs under the VS
Personal Computing (VSPC) Program Products 5740-XR5, 5740-XR6, and
5746-XR3.
As an aid to the reader of this publication, its organization is outlined below.
• Overview: Contains a brief description of VSPC FORTRAN. It stresses
VSPC's interaction with the user of the VSPC FORTRAN processor and
introduces you to VSPC.
• Language Summary: Summarizes the IBM System/360 and System/370
FORTRAN IV language features available through the VSPC FORTRAN
processor. Intended primarily to introduce the language to users unfamiliar
with IBM FORTRAN IV, this section contains figures showing statement
usage, mathematical functions, and service subroutines available to the
VSPC FORTRAN user.
• VSPC FORTRAN Processor: Describes the capabilities of the VSPC
FORTRAN compiler and library. It also describes the unique service
subroutine available only to users of VSPC FORTRAN.
• Installation Planning: Provides the information necessary to plan for
installation of VSPC FORTRAN. It includes the system configurations,
supported terminals, and storage requirements needed for VSPC
FORTRAN. Conversion considerations for both data files and existing
FORTRAN programs are presented.
• Supporting User Publications: Describes additional publications designed
for users of the System/370 VSPC FORTRAN processor.
