This Ferranti paper tape reader is a re-badged Trend UDR 700 paper tape reader. The UDR 700 is a high-speed paper tape reader that uses photo-electrical sensing and an electro-magnetic braking system. The photo-electric sensing virtually eliminates failures arising from mechanical wear and ensures that tape wear is kept at a minimum. It offers operating speeds of 700 characters per second.

It can be used as a free-standing unit or rack mounted equipment and is easily interfaced with a wide range of digital systems and most small processors.

There is an integral power unit.
