A collaboration between the British developer Argonaut and Nintendo, Starfox was a space shooter game, starring a bunch of space fighter flying animals taking on the might of an oppressive monkey like nemesis.
The game utilised the Super FX chip, which was a maths co processor, that allowed the SNES to produce polygons at a playable speed, the game was a huge success, and sequels were released on the next two Nintendo consoles.
Starfox 2 was on the verge of release on the Super Famicom/Snes, but was canned at the last moment, a playable game can be found, which can be played via emulation.
Starfox in Europe had it's name changed to Starwing, as their was already a space shooting game released by Ariolasoft that used the name, this would also affect the Sequel which was named Lylat Wars instead of Starfox 64.
