Description : Come and build yourself a Message Wand! At this workshop we'll have soldering stations set up and our in-house electronics expert will help you assemble, solder and test your Message Wand ready to take home with you. Ideal for budding electronics engineers or anyone interested in learning to solder, this project demonstrates the scientific visual phenomenon 'Persistence of Vision'. Using only 8 LEDs and a microcontroller chip, we'll be making a device that can display words in thin air!!
We'll demonstrate what 'persistence of vision' is, how the circuit works and we'll have all the tools required to make it. Just come along and enjoy the creativity of making your own electronic circuit. No electronics experience is required, although you will need a steady hand! This is a lively and challenging workshop aimed at children aged from seven upwards. All under 14's must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please note that all under 14's must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If you have already booked an accompanying adult ticket for another event on this day, you do not need to book another one for this event. Spaces are limited for this hands-on session, so booking is required to ensure your place. Please note: Whilst we'll make every effort to help ensure your Message Wand works, careful assembly and soldering is required and we cannot be held responsible for any non working wands due to poor assembly. This workshop session is priced at £26.00 per participant and includes the cost of all components and entry to the museum! Accompanying adults are charged our standard entry rate of £8.
