Alien Breed

A top-down scrolling shoot-em-up.

Inspired by the Alien movie, but not a licensed game.

The manual describes that there is a separate 'story-disk', and tells you to insert it and reset your Amiga, because 'We believe that having a nice background story/intro is important but also realise that you're unlikely to want to see it every time you play'

Incredibly well-reviewed at the time, receiving 8/10 and 9/10s from most magazines.
