Guide to the Advanced Printing Option on RM Net 3.
The advanced printing option was an upgrade to RM Net 3.x and allowed the use of remote print servers on the network using a PC-186 computer. The print spooling was still done on the main X series server, but the remote printing machine would then access the spool directory and print the documents on a locally connected printer. This allowed printers to be sited away from the main server. A separate user interface was provided on the print server to allow users to control print jobs. A dedicated machine was required, and the printer could be attached via various routs - parallel (via dedicated interface card, or piconet), serial via piconet, or via the printer port port on the PC186.
