Arkanoid is an arcade game developed by Taito. The Sinclair Spectrum version was developed by Mike Lamb, Ronnie Fowles and Mark R. Jones and published by Imagine Software in 1987.
The game did not review well in Crash magazine, and caused somewhat of a backlash among readers who felt it should have been given a far higher score. One of the things Crash objected to was the poor collision detection, something vital for a Bat and Brick game. One reader suggested not hitting the ball with the edge of the bat, as it tended to go through it, not really a perfect solution!
The game itself, has the player destroying blocks of bricks with a ball, some bricks release power ups such as lasers, that can shoot upwards at the wall, and a triple ball block, where three balls release and bounce round the screen, two can be lost.
