Sinclair ZX80 Launched
29th January 1980 The Sinclair ZX80 personal computer was launched by Sinclair Research Ltd of Cambridge on 29th January 1980.
It was the first computer (with a qwerty keyboard) available to the British public less than a hundred pounds (£99.95 in 1980).
It was available in kit form or, for slightly more, as a ready-built version.
The ZX80 immediately proved very popular creating a several month waiting list for those who had ordered one.
The ZX80 would quickly be replaced by the ZX81, an improved version that didn't suffer from the annoying 'screen flicker' that plagued the ZX80.
