Investigating The Lewis Chess Pieces. During the winter of 1830-31, more than 90 pieces of exquisitely carved ivory were found in the sand dunes at Uig Bay, on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. Investigate some of the fascinating stories associated with their discovery, design and use.
