Minutes of the LEO Management Meeting, 13th November 1959, which continued on 18th November 1959.

Research comments: refers to machines LEO II/1 (Lyons), LEO II/2 (W.D & H.O. Wills), LEO II/4 (Ford), LEO II/5 (Hartree House Service Bureau), LEO II/6 Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance), LEO II/8 (Standard Motors), LEO II/10 (intended for I.T.C. but eventually going to W.D. & H.O. Wills), LEO II/11 (eventually going to Ford), the pilot LEO III. The HEC 4 is also mentioned.

Refers to companies: Lyons, I.C.T., Ford, Metropolitan Boroughs, C.A.V., Tate & Lyle, Ilford Films.

Refers to people: David Caminer, Mr Barnes, Thomas Raymond Thompson (TRT).

It is interesting that Ford is losing considerable sums of money (£20,000 per annum) on their first LEO II, due to the "large number of staff who are employed in feeding the computer - far larger than had been anticipated".

It is also noteworthy that there is an intention for the LEO staff to be able to work on development of peripheral equipment, in exchange for a concession in the price of such equipment.

Refers to the Document Reader project - they are aiming to have the pilot reader operational by the end of 1959, though without the semi-automatic feed (because the drawings for this will "take some months").

Refers to the South African and Australian computer markets. (LM)
