Correspondence concerning the LEO team's involvement (along with ICT and Elliott) in a Computer Appreciation Course arranged for 'the most senior Civil Servants i.e. the Permanent Secretaries'. Comprises:

  • memo from Bob Gibson to TR Thompson (copied to David Caminer and John Aris) giving a proposed itinerary for the event;
  • manuscript notes for 'Talk to Top Civil Servants' written for David Caminer by John Aris, with enclosing note from John Smythson;
  • typescript diary note memo from Bob Gibson to David Caminer, confirming the Computer Appreciation Course for 6th Dec 1963 at the Cabinet Office.
  • typescript letter from FJM Laver of the Treasury, enclosing a timetable for the course on 6th Dec 1963 'Presentation of Possible Uses of A.D.P. in the Civil Service'.

Research comments: It is interesting that by the end of 1963 it is still necessary for ICT staff to spend 35 minutes of a presentation to senior civil servants explaining what a computer is (see timetable). (LM)
