Sega Launched the Megadrive Console in Europe
September 1990 Sega's second console arrives
Arriving a year after the Japanese launch, despite Europe being Sega's strongest market, the Megadrive was released in September 1990, and built on the already very sturdy foundations of it's predecessor the Master System.
The console was packaged with Altered Beast, which despite not being a good conversion of a not so great arcade machine, did enough to convince people of the new console's power.
The machine would also be a hit in the US under the name Genesis, eventually selling 32 million world wide.
