60476 LEO I view to Data Preparation area

Description of Photograph

Photograph of LEO I, looking down the central aisle towards the data preparation area (through double doors).  The STC Reconverter equipment is visible in situ - it was removed later in 1953.

This image appears in the interactive plan for our Virtual LEO I installation, p14.

Research comments: This is likely one of the last photographs taken of the LEO I peripherals area before the STC (Standard Telephones & Cables) equipment, which turned out to be unreliable, was removed. The replacement scheme, which can be seen in later photographs, was designed by the LEO team internally and, according to David Caminer in the book User-Driven Innovation, was developed under the codename of the 'Consolidation project' even before STC failed in their objective (pp. 25).
