IBM introduces IBM RS/6000

Released by IBM in February 1990, RISC System/6000, or RS/6000 for short, was a series of RISC-based servers, workstations and supercomputers. The range was based on the superscalar Power1 multichip processor.

The Deep Blue supercomputer that beat world champion Garry Kasparov at chess in 1997 was based on an IBM RS/6000 supercomputer.
