Although the seventh game in the Final Fantasy series, this was the first truly 3D entry and the first entry on the Sony Playstation and PC, having previously only been released on Nintendo consoles exclusively.

This long, 35 hour JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Game) spans across 3 discs as you progress through the story. The player takes control of Cloud Strife, an ex-SOLDIER with a shady past who once worked for the SHINRA Electrical Company which is destroying the planet by draining it's energy for profit. Cloud joins the resistance movement, AVALANCHE and begins his journey to prevent the on coming catastrophe that would decimate what remains of the planet.

Travelling in a party of 3, the player will enter turn based battles that will occur randomly during exploration of the world. Character models on the field are less detailed than those used in battle. Players can customise the abilities of their party by utilising slots on the characters weapons and accessories, filling them with magic and summon materia. These abilities will level up along with the characters themselves through earning experience by winning battles.
