Online Charity Shop Administrator
The museum has an online charity shop called GameBytes : www.GameBytes.co.uk which sells donated items that have the permission to be sold on to raise funds for the museum should they not be suitable for our collection.
The shop mostly sells duplicate games and software but also sometimes hardware.
We currently have a volunteer who manages the online shop but we require someone else than can work alongside them to add items and and decide a fair and reasonable pricing policy for the items added. This involves photographing and describing the items and possibly helping pack them ready for dispatch when we make a sale.
This role does require that you have some knowledge of computing hardware, video games and software and the ability to research items that you are not familiar with. Much can be researched online, but a personal knowledge would be a huge advantage. You must be able to describe items accurately and fairly, photograph them and upload the images to the website. This is easy to do and we can give you full training. If you have experience buying and selling on eBay then you will have a good grasp of our process too.
Once the items are on the website we need to organise the marketing to let people know we have the items available. We do this on social media and via our email database. The GameBytes website has its own Twitter account which you could manage for us, but perhaps you could help us set-up other social media channels too?
Come and Join the Team!
We have an amazing team of volunteers with a wide range of skills. We are a relaxed and welcoming team. The working atmosphere is fun, relaxed but professional. Tea and coffee is available for free from our 'Pac Lunch Shop' and as a volunteer you are welcome to all of our special events for free.
To be able to do this role you will need to be able to get to the museum in Cambridge.
We are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, every week throughout the year. We also often meet up on a Thursday evening on a casual basis to get things done and maybe get some pizza in!
This role can be done at a time that suits you within the above times. The amount of time you can offer us is entirely up to you, and it need not be the same each week. All we ask is that you let us know in advance.
