Commodore releases the VIC-20 in Europe and US

In May 1981, Commodore released the VIC-20 in Europe and the US. The machine was first released 8 months earlier in Japan as the VIC-1001.

The VIC-20 was Commodore's first colour computer. It featured a MOS 6502 CPU and 5K of RAM.

Priced at £299.99 and aimed at the personal and hobby end of the market, the VIC-20 was the first computer to sell more than 1 million units. It eventually sold over 2.5 million units before production was discontinued in 1985.
