Starglider was authored by Realtime Software, and published by Rainbird, and is a first person shoot em up, about a war on a moon, where the player and his craft are the only hope against the invading alien forces.

It is a never ending into the screen shoot em up, with the screen full of enemy tanks and walking craft that must be destroyed. Energy can be replenished by docking with a revolving home base, which is also how missiles can be replaced.

Two missiles can be carried at a time, and are used to take down the Starglider, which is a powerful robotic bird like ship that flies over the landscape. It takes two missile hits. the destruction is kind of the end of a level, after which more enemies and another Starglider appear.

The Spectrum version features the clearest speech heard on the machine, with 'Missile launched' declared when one is fired. The missile, must then be guided to it's target.

The game scored extremely highly when launched in 1987, being praised for it's fast moving vector graphics and exciting gameplay.
