Costing around $7000 dollars on release, This computer was the last machine based on the PDP-8 architecture, the computer offers less expansion capabilities than the DEC Mate II, which also made it considerably cheaper.
There is a single chip on board that contains all the PDP 8 hardware.
The machine has two 5.25 drives on board, and in part due to its small size there is no way to connect a hard disk, however the machine does support a colour monitor, which could replace the standard monochrome model.
Aimed at the word processing market, the computer could also run other applications such as OS/278 A year later a new model, the DECMate III+ was sold with a hard disk controller, and new hardware, fully compatible with its predecessors.
