Apple releases the PowerBook 100

21st October 1991 The Apple PowerBook 100 was the first of Apple's truly portable Macs. Apple introduced the new machine on 21st October 21 1991, at the COMDEX computer expo in Las Vegas, alongside the PowerBook 140 and 170. The Apple PowerBook 100 was designed and manufactured by Sony in collaboration with Apple. In terms of processing power, the PowerBook 100 was very similar to its predecessor, the Macintosh Portable. Both machines were based on the Motorola 68000 processor. However, the PowerBook 100 was much smaller and lighter than the Macintosh Portable, weighing just 5.1 pounds compared to the Portable's 15.8 pounds. The PowerBook 100 sold for $2,500 at launch.
