Fourth Edition (December 1988)
This is a major revision of SH35-0085-2, which is now obsolete. Significant changes are summarized under
"Summary of Changes."

This book describes the tasks that must be performed to manage storage by using
Data Facility Hierarchical Storage Manager (DFHSM). It also contains examples of
the commands needed to perform the tasks, descriptions of the processing that
DFHSM performs, and examples of the results of that processing.

This book is intended for use by people responsible for managing storage for a
computing system installation. It is designed to be read in sequence as an
educational tool. Information presented in one chapter often is based on knowledge
that you obtained in a preceding chapter.

Readers of this book are presumed to have a background in programming, especially
programming with TSO commands, and in OS/VS2 MVS concepts and terms. This
book is written primarily for the system programmer and storage administrator, both
of whom must understand the information in Data Facility Hierarchical Storage
Manager: Version 2 Release 4.0, General Information before they read this book.
