Multi processor architecture
The architecture of the P3500 Office
Micro System is a closely coupled
network of 2-5 processors,
communicating over a system bus,
based on the Intel Multibus.
Each user will have his/her own single
board computer facility to execute
his/her application.
A slave processor board can also be
used for data communication
The P3500 Office Micro System consists of the following - desk top • units:
-  Central unit
-  Workstations
•  Printers
-  Extension units
Central unit
The central unit includes the processors and memory (64K per processor), the standard I/O controllers supporting the SASI peripheral bus, and a battery back-up with power failure and automatic re-start.
For storage of operating system, programs, data and text, the following disks are supported:
•  5.25" flexible disk unit
-  Formatted capacity 0.64 Mbyte
•  5.25" fixed disk unit (Winchester technology)
-  Formatted capacity: 5 Mbyte or 10 Mbyte
The central unit either will have 2 built-in flexible disk units, or 1 flexible disk and 1 fixed disk unit.
Extension units
•  5.25" fixed disk unit (Winchester technology)
- Formatted capacity: 5 Mbyte or 10 Mbyte
•  8" flexible disk unit (IBM 3740 compatible)
-  Formatted capacity: 0.25 Mbyte
P3500 office workstation for handling data- and wordprocessing applications.
•  Video display
-  15" screen format
-  Capacity 2000 characters, 25 lines of 80 characters
-  High/low intensity
-  Colours: amber and green phosphor
-  Character set: national version upper and lower case
-  Full cursor control
-  Full editing capabilities
-  Blinking
-  Blanking
-  Underlining
-  Refresh frequency: 50 Hz
-  Ergonomic design for maximum comfort through optional swivelstand
•  Keyboard
-  Separate low profile keyboard allows operator to achieve most convenient workpositton
-  The keyboard provides numerous functions for office applications
-  11 programmable function keys
-  Pre-programmed function keys on separate row
-  7 programmable indicators
-  14-key numeric key pad
-  Touch keys for high speed input
-  Fast cursor movement keys
-  N-key rollover
-  Sculptured keys
-  National lay-outs are available
The Philips desk top printers are based on a high resolution needle matrix print technique offering high print speed as required in data processing applications and high print quality accepted in wordprocessing applications.
-  adaptability of various continuous form sizes
-  optional paper handling devices: automatic single sheet handler, noise shield,
front feed and/or tractor feed and pedestal
-  Character set:
national versions, upper and tower case
-  Print matrix: 9x9 and 18 x 25
Two versions are supported:
-  120 cps
printspeed 9 x 9: 120 cps max 18 x25: 60 cps max bi-directional printing
-  300 cps
printspeed  9x9: 300 cps max 18x25:   80 cps max bi-directional printing optional: a variety of founts
