Burnout is a racing game that was developed by Criterion Games and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was the first in a series of high-speed racing games noted for over the top crashes and high risk gameplay mechanics. The game's success led to several sequels. Burnout features a small collection of cars, including the small Compact, the Sedan, the Pickup and the Muscle.

Burnout received positive reviews from critics. Aggregating review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the PlayStation 2 version 80.29% and 79/100, the GameCube version 79.11% and 78/100 and the Xbox version 78.37% and 75/100.
