This unit is designed to plug into the ZX81 expansion port. It interfaces to an attached keyboard with full-sized keys. The layout of the keys matches the ZX81, with the addition of a second shift key in the upper-right. The original ZX81 keyboard is not disabled, making it easier for two people to use the same computer (useful for multiplayer games). A pass-through port on the rear of the interface unit allows additional Memotech products the be daisy-chained off each other.
