The third model Acorn launched in July 1989 was the A440/1. It not only had 4MB RAM, but also a 53MB ST506 hard disc. This series was functionally identical to the 400 series but featured a newer memory controller the MEMC1a that gave it a slightly faster speed. It also came with a 53 Megabyte hard drive in the higher end models that came with HD's rather than the 400 series's 20 Meg one. 4096k Memory. Our machine is lacking the front cover and part of the rear cover as can be seen from the photographs. This is an early version as the serial no is 27-AKB44 1001012. We are extremely grateful to Laurence Van Someren of Aleph One Ltd - http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ for donating this machine together with many other Acorn computers and associated books and manuals.
