Launch title for the Playstation 2, the game continued the tradition of having a new Ridge Racer game on the latest console, the first game came on the original Playstation, and was a huge factor along with Wipeout of the early success of the machine, three sequels followed, before this title launched on the PS2. Ridge Racer 6 and 7 were launch titles on the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively, and portable versions were available from the start on the Sony PSP, PS Vita, DS, and 3DS. Despite the game being rather hurried for the machine's launch, Ridge Racer 5 has a few new tracks of it's own, plus new cars, including a Jordan F1 car, if a special mode of completing 99 laps is accomplished.
