This photocopied manual is for the Spectral, an East German clone of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. It was produced in kit form by Hübner Elektronik, based in Erfurt. The manual is in German. This document also includes some notes on the Spectral courtesy of the donor, who was discussing the machine with German contacts in 1998, and a page on the 'HCX', another East German Spectrum clone produced by Otto von Guericke University, a technical university in Magdeburg. Vast numbers of copycat ZX Spectrums were made, most notably in Russia and Soviet-controlled areas of Europe, but also in a number of South American countries. The qualities that made the Spectrum sell so well in the UK - simplicity and value - made it very appealing to foreign companies willing to break copyright as well as to users behind the Iron Curtain who wanted access to consumer technologies. A copy of this manual is available for download and the photocopy is kept in our collection.
