Eastern Front (1941) is a combuter wargame created by Chris Crawford for the Atari 8-bit computers. Originally it was released in cassette tape format through the Atari Program Exchange (APX) in 1981. The game was praised by critics and received many awards, including Creative Computing's Game of the Year and Charles S. Roberts' best adventure game for home computers.
Due to massive success, Eastern Front was licensed by Atari and released on cartridge in 1982. The cartridge version differs from the original. For this version Crawford rewrote the AI code, added different difficulty modes and the ability to save games. Some features, like the ability to avoid combat, were removed.
