Sega launches the Mega Drive console in Europe

The Sega Mega Drive had its European launch at the European Computer Entertainment Show 1990, held 13-16 September 1990 at Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London.

Arriving a year after the Japanese launch, despite Europe being Sega's strongest market, the Mega Drive built on the already very sturdy foundations of its predecessor the Master System.

The machine would also be a hit in the US under the name Genesis, eventually selling 32 million world wide.
