Apple launches the Macintosh Plus

Launched in January 1986, the Macintosh Plus was the third model in the Macintosh line after the Macintosh 128K and Macintosh 512K.

The Macintosh Plus had a number of enhancements over the Macintosh 512K, including:

  • ROM increased from 64 kB to 128 kB.
  • RAM increased from 512K to 1 MB, expandable to 4 MB.
  • First Macintosh to include a SCSI port, allowing a variety of external peripherals to be connected.

The first Macintosh Plus models were the same beige colour as the Macintosh 128K and 512K, known as Pantone 453. However, in 1987 the color was changed to a warm gray "Platinum" color.
