Apple releases the Macintosh Portable

On 20th September 1989 Apple unveiled the Macintosh Portable at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, California.

The Macintosh Portable was Apple's first battery-powered Macintosh. The machine did not sell as well as Apple expected. Weighing in at over 7kg, the device was considered heavy and bulky, and the black and white active-matrix LCD screen was hard to read in low-light. And at $6,500 the Macintosh Portable was not cheap.
