DEC releases the PDP-8

On 22 March 1965, DEC introduced the PDP-8, the first commercially successful minicomputer.

Priced at $18,500 it is the first computer to retail for under $20,000, a fifth of the cost of an IBM System 360 mainframe.

Over 50,000 PDP-8 machines were sold over its lifetime.
