Symbian Building Sign

This large metal sign was outside the Symbian HQ Building, 2-6 Boundary Row, Near Waterloo, London from 2000-2012, at which time Symbian was absorbed into Nokia.

Symbian Ltd, was a development company, known for the Symbian Operating system for smartphones, and other similar devices. They had offices in Cambridge UK, Sweden, Silicone Valley, Japan, India, China, South Korea and Australia.

The company was formed in June 1998, and was a joint venture between Psion, Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and Sony, as a coming together of the functions of the PDA and mobile phones. It was also an effort to stop Microsoft extending it's reach from the home computer market into mobile phones and devices.

Ten years to the day, Nokia announced a full takeover of Symbian. At this time the Symbian foundation was also formed. This was to increase innovation and provide royalty free software. The company Symbian Ltd, and all it's employees became Nokia on 2nd December 2008.
