Edwina Dunn OBE

Born: 1958

Edwina Dunn is a UK data‑industry leader who co‑founded dunnhumby, the analytics company that transformed modern retail by pioneering Tesco Clubcard and other global loyalty programmes in the mid‑1990s. By analysing millions of real shopping baskets, she helped retailers understand customer behaviour in new ways, replacing guesswork with evidence and showing how computing and data could reshape entire industries.

After leaving dunnhumby, she went on to lead major data‑science ventures, including Starcount, which develops new forms of predictive analytics and consumer insight. Her work has earned her an OBE and recognition as one of the UK’s most influential data innovators.

Dunn’s educational foundation The Female Lead celebrates women’s achievements and uses data to highlight the barriers women face in work and society. Its global community reaches millions, promoting representation, storytelling, and evidence‑based research on women’s lives. She also leads Tandem, a creative agency founded by The Female Lead, which uses data‑led storytelling and digital tools to help brands build positive, meaningful connections with girls and women.

Alongside this, Edwina works with the UK’s Centre for Data Ethics & Innovation and the Geospatial Commission, helping government explore how data, AI and location technologies can be used responsibly, ethically and for public good.

By combining her technical expertise with a commitment to fairness and representation, she continues to work towards a future in which data and technology are used responsibly and inclusively.
