BBC Domesday Project 40th Anniversary Celebration

Join us to celebrate 40 years of the BBC Domesday Project

Forty years after thousands of schoolchildren across Britain helped create one of the world's most ambitious digital heritage projects, we're bringing the BBC Domesday Project back to life.

Join us at the Centre for Computing History on Saturday 19 September 2026 for a special 40th anniversary celebration exploring the people, stories and pioneering technology behind the project.

The anniversary celebration will be an opportunity to:

  • Explore original BBC Domesday Project content on our fully working Domesday Systems
  • Discover how the project was created and the technology that made it possible
  • Hear stories and memories from people who took part
  • Reconnect with contributions made by schools and communities across Britain
  • Find out more about the preservation and restoration of this remarkable piece of digital history
  • Meet fellow former contributors and Domesday enthusiasts
  • Share your own memories and experiences of the project

Book your tickets now! Use code domesday12 at checkout to get one free adult ticket!

We're also hoping to reunite former contributors with the work they created 40 years ago.

Did you take part in the BBC Domesday Project?

Were you one of the schoolchildren who contributed photographs, surveys or local information? Maybe you were a teacher who helped organise a project, or you still have a blue Domesday clipboard, photographs, notes or worksheets tucked away somewhere.

We'd love to hear from you.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, we're collecting stories and memories from people who were involved in the project and looking for original contributions that can help us tell its story.

Please consider filling out our survey below if you have a story to be told!
