AES Data Inc., a Montreal based international manufacturer of word-processing hardware and software, that manufactured the world's first general-purpose personal computer.
 
AES Data Inc.was founded by Stephen Dorsey, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology-trained engineer in 1972. AES launched the AES 90 computer, years before Microsoft and Apple were companies. Marketed as a "word processing system," the AES 90 was really the world's first general-purpose personal computer. AES went on to grow to more than $200 million in annual sales.
On Sept. 1 1987 Kinburn Technology Corporation of Ottawa announced that it had completed the acquisition for $16.5 million of all the outstanding shares of AES Data Inc. of Montreal.
